Our Services to Business provides high quality customised training to businesses, and our well respected Centres of Vocational Excellence in Management and Information Communication Technology are innovative and successful.

Ofsted Inspectors judge College ‘oustanding’ in many key areas

The College plays a leading role in regional regeneration and a new state of the art learning facility - the skillsXchange - is now open at Glasshoughton, replacing the College’s Whitwood Campus and offering skills for employability locally and regionally. Redevelopment of the Wakefield Campus is also planned and will bring a modern, vibrant learning environment, home to Sixth Form and Higher Education students, into the heart of the City.

In the Ofsted Inspection report published in January 2007 Inspectors described the College as a place where learners enjoy their work, make good progress and develop their confidence and skills and where students with particular needs are well supported by a wide range of specialist skills and equipment.

Among the College’s highlighted strengths were the effectiveness and quality of its range of provision, meeting the needs of both learners and employers; its teaching, training and learning; its achievements which at many levels are above the national averages; its partnership working; its approach to educational and social inclusion and the clear vision provided by College leaders and Governors.

MP praises College

The College has also emerged top of the West Yorkshire Schools and Colleges’ league table of Achievement and Attainment for the third year in succession, reflecting the achievement in 2006 of its best ever A level results, which were described by the Minister of Further and Higher Education Bill Rammell as ‘phenomenal’.

The Wakefield District can be proud of its College - of its history and its achievements, of its tradition in supporting learners in all aspects of their learning experience and of its vision for a learning landscape where students will succeed in an environment befitting the curriculum of the future.
