skillsXchange
The most impressive building on the most successful contemporary regeneration site in Yorkshire, the skillsXchange at Glasshoughton is a distinctive, iconic structure, where purpose built facilities provide our students with a very real advantage, whether it be in employment or access to higher education, and businesses across the District can access training for their employees which is second to none.
The new build is distinctive, welcoming and houses the learning areas of construction crafts, practical engineering, motor vehicle, hairdressing and beauty therapy, IT and care. And the interior is as exquisitely crafted as the exterior, individual, modern, yet easy to navigate, and with energy saving and green features throughout.
In beautifully appointed salons, including a nail bar, the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians are being trained. These professional salons provide live training environments to students, offering hair and beauty treatments to the public.
Purpose-built facilities accommodate the study of brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plumbing, gas and electrical installation, and also practical engineering - electronics, mechanical engineering, welding and plant engineering.
Motor vehicle and motorcycle students study in industry standard workshops, and strong links with local industries provide all students with opportunities for work placements.
Staff and students also benefit from a learning centre equipped with a wide range of learning materials, the very latest in technology, and access to the internet.
Situated on the £200 million, 335-acre mixed-use Glasshoughton business park at Junction 32 of the M62, the skillsXchange adds further diversity to the Glasshoughton site and breathes new life into the 9 acre site on which it stands.
The Campus is well served by both bus and rail and is easily accessible by road. It is situated less than a mile from the M62 and has ample parking space for all vehicle users.
