
Overall the
total number of staff at the College rose by 21.9 full time equivalents
(FTEs) to 476.5 between 31st July 2000 and 31st July 2001.
The gender balance of the College's staff has remained largely unchanged
at 38.1% male to 61.9% female and is in line with the FE sector figures
(39% and 61%). These figures mask the variance between males and females
in the different work groups. These are for support staff 28.5% male,
71.5% female, for managers 50.1% male and 49.9% female, and for lecturers
49.8% male and 50.2% female.
The majority of staff is aged between 41 to 50, with the average age
being 43. These staff bring a wealth of life experience and a broad
range of expertise to the College.
The percentage of ethnic minority employees in the College workforce
is 1.6% which reflects the percentage of ethnic minority people in the
Wakefield District.
The College has a sickness absence rate of 3.7% which is low for the
public sector (4.8% for local government - MCIPD National Survey of
Sickness Absence, June 2001). The staff turnover rate is 3.2% for lecturers
and 5.5% for support staff, which compares very favourably with the
sector averages of 10% and 14% respectively.
