We are pleased to announce that the guest speaker for the 2011 Graduation Ceremony will be the successful businessman and former Wakefield College student, Adeem Younis.
Adeem graduated from Wakefield College in 1999 with a BA (hons) in Graphic Design, but before the course had finished he had already set up GoWebPrint.com, a company providing web design, development and online marketing solutions which would be the first of many successful business and charitable ventures.
While studying at Wakefield College, Adeem realised that many of his male friends, despite being well educated and coming from good families, found it difficult to meet suitable marriage partners. Adeem’s web design skills enabled him to devise a modern solution to this age-old problem – an online matrimonial service for Muslims wanting to meet potential partners in a respectable and safe environment. This was SingleMuslim.com, which since its launch in August 2000 has amassed over half a million registered members worldwide and helped to bring about over ten thousand marriages.
With SingleMuslim.com succeeding beyond all expectations, Adeem promptly moved into a completely new area and set up Flava, an Indian restaurant which became famous for its signature dish – chocolate curry.
More recently, Adeem’s proudest achievement has been the establishment in 2009 of Penny Appeal, a charity devoted to relieving poverty and giving orphaned or destitute children in North West Pakistan access to education.

Adeem’s inventiveness and drive have earned him official recognition on a number of occasions. In 2003 he won the Shell LiveWire Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, while in the Wakefield District Business Awards he was a finalist in the Business Entrepreneur category in 2007 and highly commended in the e-Business category in 2009.
Adeem has always acknowledged the contribution made by Wakefield College to his later success, particularly in giving him the confidence to start his own business. “I can honestly say that Wakefield College has given me the best start in life. The courses were relevant, up-to-date and practical, and I’ll always value the support and guidance I had from my tutors every step of the way. At the College I learnt the importance of believing in myself, and without that encouragement I doubt I’d be where I am today.”
