Wakefield College - the perfect choice

There are many factors to consider when choosing a higher education course. As well as inspirational teaching, you also expect the right kind of facilities, excellent support and a good record of student success.

Wakefield College offers all these and more. Our range of higher education courses includes Foundation Degrees, honours degrees, HNDs, and HNCs, as well as Access to HE and professional qualifications.

Study at Wakefield College
At Wakefield College you’ll benefit from our supportive environment. We’re not under pressure to recruit lots of students, so you won’t be lost in a large group. Neither are we under pressure to decrease the amount of tuition you receive. You will have regular contact with your tutors and with smaller group sizes we can really get to know you better and respond to your needs.

Our higher education courses are located in specialist facilities in our City Centre Campuses and in our recently opened skillsXchange Campus in Glasshoughton which provides an outstanding learning environment.

Studying at the College is a great way to gain a recognised higher education qualification in your chosen occupation that will prepare you for employment, or for the next stage of your career. It also gives you an excellent academic and practical basis for further study.

All our higher educational courses are vocational and the College has strong links with local, regional and national employers. We work very closely with the relevant industries to ensure that our courses are up-to-date and that you have the skills necessary for the world of work. By working closely with employers we can also give you the opportunity to go on work placements, work with local business organisations, and gain essential experience of the workplace as part of your studies.

As a student you may also experience economic benefits from studying at the College. Our full and part-time fees are lower than most universities. Furthermore, students local to Wakefield can make a real saving by not having to relocate or travel long distances for their study.

University Links
Many of our higher education courses are validated by regional universities - Leeds Metropolitan University, the University of Huddersfield, and the University of Bradford - so you get a university award while studying at the College. These well established links mean that as a student you benefit from the support, opportunities and expertise offered by both the College and the partner university.

We also work very closely with universities and colleges across the region to provide progression routes to further study for our graduates.

Student satisfaction
The National Student Survey shows that our students are very happy with their experience at the College, giving the College satisfaction rates that are generally higher than universities and many other colleges in the region.

Excellence as Standard
Wakefield College is one of the region’s leading education providers, and continues to receive national recognition. Our awards include:

  • Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) recognition for the quality of our teaching and learning
  • Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award
  • One of the first colleges in the UK to be awarded the new Training Quality Standard for its business training service

Our College tutors are specialists in their fields and all are committed to obtaining the best from their students.

Widening Participation
Wakefield College is committed to encouraging applications from learners with diverse backgrounds who traditionally have not entered Higher Education.

In addition, it is our objective to offer a supportive learning environment for students while they are at the College and also to provide advice and guidance on what opportunities are available once they have completed their studies.
