Best ever exam results for College
Their highest ever set of A level examination
results is today being celebrated by students and staff
at Wakefield College, with a phenomenal 95% overall
pass rate, compared with 93% last year, and 100% pass
rate in 17 subjects, two more than in 2003.
Across the board results at the College were better
than ever, with an 87% pass rate at AS level, compared
with 83% last year, and a dramatic increase in the number
of high A and B grades being achieved at both A and
AS level.
Principal Heather MacDonald said the results achieved
by Wakefield College students were “stunning -
absolutely brilliant! They are a credit to their hard
work and that of our very talented and committed teachers.
The College continues to justify its strong reputation
for academic excellence, and the high grade profile
achieved by our students will mean that the majority
should gain entry to the university of their choice.”
The 17 subjects in which a 100% pass had been achieved
included Information Communication Technology and Business,
reflecting the College’s Centre of Vocational
Excellence status in these areas. They also included
two new subjects being offered by the College at A level
this year - 3D Ceramics and Film Studies - and Biology,
Physics, Urdu, Geography, Religious Studies and Photography,
all experienced a substantial improvement to take them
to the 100% achievement mark.
Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE)
Single Awards saw a substantial increase in the overall
pass rate, from 84% to 90% and the Double Award, whilst
maintaining a high 94% pass rate, saw high A and B grades
more than double.
Tony Rex, Director of the College’s Sixth Form
Academy, said that, “the results are tremendous
and reflect the high standards that we set for our students
in the Sixth Form Academy. Our students can be justifiably
proud of all the hard work that has underpinned their
success.”
