Swede success for exchange students
Wakefield College welcomed students from Sweden
last week as part of an on-going partnership with colleges
throughout mainland Europe. The students arrived from
the central Swedish town of Falun as part of an increasing
cultural awareness project.

The three students Johanna Nilsson, Louise Chapman
and lola Dohlstorm are all set to learn more about British
culture. Their visit follows a trip by three Wakefield
College students who spent two weeks in Sweden as part
of the exchange. The students who are all studying Sports
and Exercise Science had a stint at working and experiencing
Sweden. The exchange is being funded by The Leonardo
da Vinci Scheme – an EU funded work exchange programme
designed to give young people the opportunity to gain
valuable work experience and language skills.
Nick Young, Course Co-ordinator at Wakefield College
said “it was a fantastic opportunity for students
from both countries to further broaden their skills
and knowledge about different people and cultures”.
He further reiterated the College’s plans to continue
and work with their European partners and further expand
the scheme making it available for more students.
The girls’ initial views of England being ‘dirty’
and ‘boring’ are quickly changing as they
have the opportunities to visit Old Trafford –
the home of Manchester United, Alton Towers and X-scape.
Wakefield College has previously had many dealings
with Kristine College in Falun, three years ago HND
dance students had the opportunity to be part of a dance
extravaganza in a coalmine, of all places. Staff and
students alike are looking forward to continuing and
building on the working relationship.
