The show must go on

Wakefield College Dance students had to be at their versatile best last week after one of the performers had to pull out of the end of year show due to an injury. However, the absence of one of the dancers didn’t stop the rest of the group putting in a virtuoso performance on the night.

Rosemary Higginbotham, Rebecca Bellamy-Ross, Laura Newton, Gemma Loxton and Katy Medley.

The BTEC National Dance students had to re-choreograph the dance after Emma Parkinson had to withdraw as a result of a sprained ankle the night before the show. The students had been rehearsing the routines for the 3 weeks but only had 1 day to make the necessary adjustments.

But it was all right on the night as the girls gave a superb performance to a packed theatre at Thornes Park. They received a standing ovation for their rendition of Verdi’s famous opera ’La Traviata’.

It was the end of the road as far as the dance students were concerned. Many of them have gained places at top Universities for September. BTEC National Dance Course coordinator Janine Godfrey was full of praise for her students, she said, “ It is a testament to their commitment and ability they found it within them selves to perform so well given the circumstances, I wish them all well in the future”.
