Tutor scoops technology award
Wakefield College Programme Area Manager for Business and IT Tony Hartley has scooped a prestigious national teaching award. Tony won the HE in FE Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Subject Centre Teaching Award.

The awards are run by the by the New Engineering Forum (NEF), an independent organisation that promotes the development of Vocational Education in Science, Engineering and Technology. The award was open to all UK STEM lecturers who teach Higher Education in a Further Education college.
Tony won the award having made significant contributions to developing and supporting Information and Learning Technology (ILT) within Wakefield College. This pioneering work included the introduction of Web 2.0 technology in the form of multimedia progression sequences and interactive assessment methods which aid group and individual learner interaction.
Commenting on his prize Tony said, “I was very pleased to be nominated and receive the teaching award for innovation. Integrating the latest technology into teaching and learning ensures that lessons remain exciting, challenging and informative in line with technological advances happening in the real world. This is yet another example of Wakefield College being at the forefront and leading the way in teaching and learning.”
Tony has also recently been awarded a grade one for teaching and learning as a result of using innovative methods in class that engage learners using visual aids and interactive elements.
Director of Academy Tony Rex commented, “Tony is an outstanding teacher, and this award, which reflects the College's determination to remain at the cutting edge of developments in teaching and learning for the benefit of all our students, is richly deserved.”
