The final countdown
Members of the public are being invited to contribute to a unique project being run by Wakefield College. To commemorate the closing of its Whitwood Campus and opening of the skillsXchange in Glasshoughton, a unique on-line time capsule has been set up on the College’s website.
The 25 year on-line time capsule is a modern day take on the more traditional burying of capsules undertaken prior to the completion of a new building. Many local school students from the district have already started submitting ideas to the time capsule and the College is now inviting members of the public to share their memories too.
The time capsule can be accessed via www.wakefield.ac.uk/TimeCapsule and will remain open for visitors until the end of August 2009 to coincide with the start of the new term and the first cohort of new students to come through the doors to the skillsXchange in September. The time capsule will then remain closed until Monday 3rd April 2034 - the 25th anniversary of the opening of the skillsXchange. Visitors on the website can upload images, blogs, videos and messages onto the website.
Wakefield College Principal Sue Griffiths said,“We hope as many people as possible will contribute to this project to commemorate the opening of our wonderful new skillsXchange. This is a great opportunity to let future generations know what life was like in 2009 and share with them what our hopes and aspirations were.”
