Introduction

The start of a new venture is always exciting, and it gives me great pleasure to introduce the first prospectus for Wakefield Sixth Form College.

Wakefield Sixth Form College will provide students with a distinctive learning environment for advanced level study. Building on the success of our Sixth Form Academy, the Sixth Form College focuses specifically on the needs of advanced level students aged 16 to 19 years, aiming to progress into higher education or a career.

We have many years experience of successfully delivering a choice of advanced level academic and vocational programmes, which cannot be matched locally. We are extremely proud of the achievements of our students; in recent years our AS and A level results have gone from strength to strength and we have also celebrated significant rises in the pass rates for our other advanced level courses.

Our performance and capacity to improve has been recently recognised by Ofsted Inspectors, and the College topped the league table of West Yorkshire General FE Colleges for performance at AS/A level and Advanced VCE in 2004 and 2005.

We set high standards for our students and we want your time with us to be as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible. We believe that your personal and social development is an important part of being at College, and we provide tremendous opportunities for our students to visit and work overseas as part of their programme of study.
