Public Statement - Use of Low Cost funding to Wakefield College

The College has employed multiple strategies to attract, retain, and support the achievement of disadvantaged students and those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The low cost Additional Learning Support (ALS) funding allocation has been used to support their ambitions, help them reach their full potential and inspire better life-chances.

The funds has enabled a dedicated Achievement Resource Centres at each Campus to support literacy, numeracy and language skills, and the Help Understanding Behaviour resource that gives support to those with challenging behaviour to continually engaging in learning when they need to use coping strategies of ‘time out’.

Programme areas have also had an injection of low cost funding to provide a personalised support service devoted to students’ needs dedicated to additional support workshops, supported mentoring and studies.

The ALS Service success rate has increased by 9% from 2013-13 to 2014-15, retention has increased by 5% and due to the effective use of the low cost funding the achievement rate for 2014-15 is an outstanding 99%.
