Animal Care at Wakefield College

Animal care is a diverse and expanding industry, worth £1 billion to the UK economy. With 46% of households owning a pet, and a rise in the number of people visiting zoos and wildlife parks, there are many job prospects for those with the right qualifications.

We offer specialist facilities for the study of animal care, including a collection of exotic and mammalian species.

Our partnership with Askham Bryan College in York enables our students to gain experience with further species and unique resources.

Key Points
  • work in partnership with Askham Bryan College
  • animal collection on campus
  • tutor expertise
  • great regional, national and international links
  • visits and field trips to access a larger variety of animals

The best part of the course were the trips we took to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Chester Zoo where I got a real understanding of different species.

I have learnt a lot about the animal care industry whilst studying and I have gained a lot of experience working with the animals in the animal care unit. As part of the course I spend one day a week at a work placement which I really enjoy.
