What Ana had to say...

Ana Mesarovic came to Wakefield College to study for a BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development Coaching and Fitness, in which she achieved a distinction.

When Ana’s tutors told her about the Foundation Degree in Health Related Exercise and Fitness she was keen to apply and was successful in getting a place on the course.

Ana said, “I was really excited and nervous about starting a university degree, but my interest in health and exercise and my ambition to have a career in GP Exercise Referral made me very determined. I really enjoyed my time at Wakefield College. My tutors were fantastic. Their enthusiasm made the lectures really interesting and they also encouraged me to fulfil my potential which really helped me to achieve my goals.”

While studying for her degree at Wakefield College, Ana discovered many opportunities to broaden her experience, such as the chance to get involved with Connect3. Connect3 run a range of free childhood weight management programmes for 0-19 year olds across the Wakefield district.

“I felt part of a team at Connect3. It enabled me to transfer my academic knowledge to practical work with local children, helping to combat childhood obesity,” said Ana.

Ana found the foundation degree challenging at times but with support from her tutors she pushed herself and completed it. And she didn’t stop there: Ana went on to do the BSc (Hons) Health Related Exercise and Fitness at the College and was the first student to graduate from that particular course with first class Honours.

“I’m so proud of what I have achieved so far. I’m now studying for a BSc Honours Degree in Adult Nursing at the University of Leeds to help me pursue my career ambition to become a nurse consultant and run cardiac rehabilitation sessions for patients with heart disease.”
