Students across the district get a taste of careers in Construction

Over 170 pupils from the Wakefield district took part in a wide range of hands-on construction activities as part of Give Construction a Try – giving them insight into the different career paths available within the sector. Give Construction a Try, which was held at Castleford College on Wednesday 13th March, saw pupils enjoy 115 interactive workshops across the day in bricklaying, building information modelling, carpentry & joinery, clay tiling, electrical, plumbing, roofing surveying and more.

Students embark on Fiji trip with Think Pacific

Former student helps Wigan Warriors win 2024 World Club Challenge

Former sport student at the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, Tyler Dupree, helped lead Wigan Warriors to victory against Penrith Panthers in the World Club Challenge 2024. Tyler was subbed on in the 18th minute of the game by Wigan Warrior’s Head Coach Matt Peet, with the forward playing a key role in securing the team’s win over Penrith Panthers at the DW stadium on Saturday 24th February 2024.

Escape Technology hosts wall vinyl competition for Wakefield College students

Wakefield College has teamed up with Escape Technology to host a wall vinyl competition - giving its Digital Industries students an exciting opportunity to display their artwork across the College. The students put their creativity to the test by designing a wall graphic which incorporated Escape Technology’s logo and celebrated the College’s partnership with the company.

College staff ride 400 miles for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Staff from Castleford College have ridden over 400 miles for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, raising more than £545 for the charity. Their latest ride started at the College with the team making their way to the east coast, covering seaside towns Bridlington and Scarborough.

Group wins Yorkshire Learning Providers Award

The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has been recognised by the Yorkshire Learning Providers Awards for its efforts in helping the region develop the green skills for future demands. The Group’s Skills Bootcamp in the Principles of Carbon Capture and Storage programme was presented with the Best Skills Bootcamp Delivery accolade at the Yorkshire Learning Providers 20th Birthday Awards.

Group marks students’ achievements at Annual Awards Ceremony

Held on Tuesday 12th December at Castleford College, 20 awards were presented throughout the evening across a range of subjects including Construction, Engineering and Mathematics.

Wakefield College helps pupils to expand their culinary skills

Wakefield College is enabling pupils to build their confidence in the kitchen by hosting a range of cooking demonstrations with local secondary schools. As part of cookery week, the College’s Hospitality & Catering department delivered culinary sessions with pupils from Rodillian Academy and Oulton Academy where they learned how to make and present a range of dishes.
