Wakefield College celebrates excellent Advanced Level results

A Level Results Day Press Release Sixth Form

Wakefield College’s Sixth Form celebrated excellent Advanced Level results for 2011/12. Figures revealed on A Level Results Day showed that the overall A-level pass rate has increased to over 98% - exceeding 95% for the eighth year in succession.

The number of A-level courses achieving a pass rate of 100% increased to 20, and included the Applied A-levels in Health & Social Care and ICT. A-level Art & Design achieved a 100% pass rate for an incredible eleventh consecutive year; Film studies achieved 100% for the ninth consecutive year and English Literature for the seventh year in a row.

Results for Mathematics were particularly impressive, with 81% of students achieving A* to C grades and Further Mathematics achieving a 100% pass rate. The proportion of students achieving high grades matched the previous year’s figure overall, with significant improvements in English Literature and Law.

The strength of the College’s Sixth Form Advanced Diploma Programmes was reflected in the fantastic results achieved by students taking Extended Diplomas. Seventeen students achieved the highest possible grade of 3 Distinctions*; five of which are in Applied Science.

College Principal, Sam Wright, said “We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. Our Sixth Form offers a distinctive learning experience which provides a stepping stone between school and university. Our students speak highly of the excellent working relationships they build with their teachers and I am confident this is a key factor in these tremendous results. I want to congratulate all our staff and students for their success.”

Assistant Principal, Tony Rex, said “We’re delighted to see even more students taking A-levels in Wakefield College’s Sixth Form and that the number of students achieving A* grades has more than doubled. Our students can be justifiably proud of all the hard work that has underpinned their success. They have coped admirably with the challenge of A-levels, and set high standards for the Sixth Form in the future.”
