Balloon race marks College’s Family Fun Day

Press Release

The sun was shining and the people of Wakefield came in their hundreds for the first ever Wakefield College Family Fun Day which took place at Thornes Park over the weekend.

Families attending the event were treated to a range of free activities and rides including trampolines, flying chair, bouncy castles and a penalty shootout. The face painting and water zorbing proved particularly popular with visitors and queues lasted throughout most of the day. Guests also had chance to meet stars from the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and enjoy music with Ridings FM.

Wakefield College Principal, Sam Wright, said: “It was great to see so many people come along and enjoy our first ever Family Fun Day. We see Wakefield College very much at the heart of the community and events such as this really do allow us to give something back to the people of the District. It was a wonderful event and the feedback we got has been very positive.”

The event culminated with the release of over 200 balloons which filled the skies of Wakefield. The College is running a competition to see which balloon travels the furthest with a mystery prize on offer for the winning entrant.

Organisers are hopeful the Family Fun Day could become an annual feature in the College’s event’s calendar.
