A Level students from Wakefield College’s Sixth Form have once again come up trumps after the class of 2013 achieved another strong set of results. Figures revealed last night showed the overall pass rate exceeding 95% for the tenth year in succession. In addition to the A level success an impressive 13 BTEC Extended Diploma students achieved three distinction stars – the highest results possible.

This year 15 A Level subjects achieved a 100% pass rate, including English Literature, Law, Biology, Chemistry, History, Physics, Accounting, Media Studies, Further Maths and ICT.

A Level Film Studies achieved a 100% pass rate for the tenth consecutive year; Media Studies achieved 100% for the ninth year running whilst English Literature hit the maximum rate for the eighth year in a row. The proportion of students achieving A*-B grades in Mathematics increased to 65%, and almost half of the students studying Media Studies achieved high grades.

Amongst this year’s individual success stories were students Carrie Battram who achieved A* (Law), A (Film Studies) and B (Media Studies) whilst Thi Quynh Anh Bui achieved A (Media Studies), A (Maths), and C (Business Studies).

At AS Level the overall pass rate rose four points to 79%. It was a case of family affairs for brothers Gary and Thomas Woodcock who both achieved identical grades in the same subjects. They scored an A (English Literature), A (English Language), A (Film Studies), and B (Media Studies).

College Principal, Sam Wright, said, “We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students along with the high quality teaching and learning environment that exists here at Wakefield College. I, along with all the senior team, would like to congratulate all our staff and students for their success.”

Assistant Principal, Tony Rex, said, “We’re pleased with this set of results and our students can be proud of all the hard work that has underpinned their success. They are clearly making the most of the new facilities for our Sixth Form at the College’s City Campus and have coped admirably with the challenge of A Levels. We wish them all well in their future endeavours in Higher Education and beyond.”
