New website for Lightwaves

Creative web design students from Wakefield College put their tech skills to good use when they revamped the official website of a local community group. The College’s Web Design Foundation Degree (FdA) students overhauled the website of Lightwaves ( giving it a new, sleek and professional look.

The venture was a collaboration between students Craig Smith and Oliver Farrell. Craig, who moved to the area from Essex because of the College’s Web Design course, built the website while Oliver project managed the assignment, liaising directly with staff at Lightwaves from initial concepts to full implementation.

Steve Smith, Programme Leader on the Web Design course, said: “We were delighted to be invited to create the new Lightwaves website. Such projects are what Foundation Degree qualifications are really about, and continue to ensure that FdA Web Design’s graduates are amongst the most employable in the Creative and Digital Industries.”

Lightwaves General Manager, Mohammed Ayub, commented: “I’m very pleased with the website and the standard of creative and technical skill shown by the students. I was impressed with the environment and atmosphere they created – it felt like Lightwaves were working with a professional web design business. I will definitely be recommending FdA Web Design’s services to others.”
