Wakefield College students gathered at the Waterton Building last week for the annual Awards Ceremony where the College celebrates the hard work, dedication, and achievements of its students.

Senior College staff were joined by Governors, sponsors, friends and families for the glittering event where 45 awards were handed out to learners of all ages and abilities.

Proceedings were opened by College Principal Sam Wright who congratulated students on their awards. Sam was joined by the College’s Chair of Governors, Kevin Henry, who presented the award winners with their certificates and prize money.

Addressing the gathering, Sam said: “I’m justifiably proud of each and every one of you and of your achievements. My congratulations go to all of you, along with my best wishes for your future success and happiness.”

Student of the Year awards were presented to students to recognise accomplishment within their areas of study. This year’s winners included former student Gary Woodcock who scooped the A Level Student of the Year prize. Gary was described by his tutor as ‘an extremely intelligent and creative student and his appreciation and standard of knowledge enabled him to perform brilliantly’.

This year’s event was sponsored by University Centre Wakefield, Waystone, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ede and Ravenscroft, Spawforths and Caterlink.
