Wakefield College sports students water rafting in Italy.

Wakefield College students studying the BTEC L3 in Sport at Wakefield College travelled to the Aosta Valley in Italy for their annual residential. 29 first year students were challenged to take part in exciting and thrilling outdoor activities, many of which taught skills which are directly related to their course.

Bordered by France and Switzerland and surrounded by some of the highest peaks in Europe and boasting spectacular scenery, the Aosta Valley was the perfect backdrop for nine days of challenges including mountain climbing at over 2500 metres, kayaking, canoeing, high ropes and abseiling.

The climax to the trip was white water rafting down the wild rapids of the River Dora Baltea - fast-flowing rapids carving through some of the valley’s most magnificent canyons, forests and gorges.

The students also spent the day in the stunning city of Turin, where they experienced authentic Italian life, food and culture, including a sample of the local Italian ice cream that Turin is famous for.
