College photography students’ work goes on display

Press Release Art Design & Media Photography

Talented photography and creative media students from Wakefield College will have a selection of their work on display at the Hepworth Gallery where members of the public can choose their favourites as part of the ‘My secret Wakefield’ competition.

The exhibition features photographs taken by over 70 young people from schools and colleges across the District. The theme for the competition was set by photographer Martin Parr, with photographs depicting subjects which include the remains of decaying buildings, the natural landscape, street scenes, domestic animals, school friends and family members

Students Levi Boston, Megan Wilkinson, Fleur Chinery, Leah Derry and Chloe Fitton are now hoping members of the public will vote for their images at the Hepworth where the vote is now open until Monday 3 May.

Commenting on the news that her work had been shortlisted, Leah Derry said: “Having the opportunity to enter the competition was exciting enough, but then to be chosen to exhibit my image in the Hepworth is amazing, I'm over the moon.”

Photography lecturer, Sarah Squires said: “The entire photography team are really proud of all the students who got involved. The five students who are going to be exhibiting have worked really hard, they have developed so much recently and it's clearly made a difference. We wish them all the best during the public vote.”
