Wakefield College hosted the College Games at Lightwaves Leisure Centre.

Joined by Bradford College, Greenhead College, Pontefract New College, Leeds City College, Leeds College of Building and Calderdale College, teams took part in football, table tennis, dodgeball and disability sports go ball and boccia.

Yasmin Ayub, Tackling Inactivity Project Lead at Wakefield College said the College were proud to host the games, “This is the first time the College has participated in the College Games for a number of years so we’re excited to get back into it. We have a strong sport provision at College both as courses and extra-curricular activites, it’s important to us to get young people involved in sport.”

Four students from Wakefield College helped referee and support the games, the ambassadors are from the Yorkshire Sport Foundation which helps young and aspiring coaches in sport.

Rachel Corbett, one of the FE Ambassadors, volunteered on the day. “We came with two different activities, boccia and go ball, to get students aware of the sport and they seemed to enjoy it and it went really well. I volunteer through College a lot and when I found out I could help to teach others new sports, I jumped at the chance!”
