Group enhances its Free Online Learning offer

Adding to its expansive Free Online Learning offer, the Group’s new programmes are designed to enable adults to enhance their skills and knowledge in a range of key areas.

Group commended for student experience in Teaching Excellence Framework rating

The University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has been awarded ‘Silver’ for student experience in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023. Conducted by the Office for Students (OfS), the panel of judges praised the University Centre for the outstanding student experience it offers – with data showing it significantly outperforms TEF’s benchmarks in this area.

Heart of Yorkshire Education Group receives Ofsted ‘Good’ grade and ‘Strong’ skills rating

The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has been praised by Ofsted for its ‘Strong’ contribution to meeting regional and national skills needs, with the Group receiving a ‘Good’ grade for every aspect and overall. 16 Ofsted inspectors carried out a full inspection of the Group’s three Colleges – Castleford College, Selby College and Wakefield College – in early October, following Ofsted’s latest ‘enhanced inspection framework’, which was launched in September 2022.

West Yorkshire Colleges secure funding to accelerate digital innovation in education

West Yorkshire Colleges have been successful in securing £6.9 million from the Department for Education to digitise teaching and learning in key sectors. The funding is part of the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) and will launch a West Yorkshire digital innovation project led by colleges.

Wakefield College’s University Centre celebrates graduates’ success

More than 120 graduates from Wakefield College’s University Centre have been acknowledged for their academic achievements as part of a Graduation ceremony at Wakefield Cathedral. Graduates were joined by their family and friends, as well as their tutors and support staff of the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, as they marked the momentous occasion.

Group launches Construction and Engineering recruitment drive

Apprentice sets his sights on World Skills UK final

A Fabrication and Welding apprentice from Castleford College is putting his welding skills to the test, as he prepares to take part in the World Skills UK SkillsWeld final. Kalum Smart, who is a Fabrication and Welding apprentice with TASCA Tankers Ltd, is one of 10 finalists in the SkillsWeld competition who will be competing for gold, silver or bronze.

Wakefield College and WDH launch T Level partnership

Wakefield College and WDH have teamed up to deliver a brand-new T Level in Management & Administration – enabling students to gain hands-on, valuable work experience in their chosen sector. As part of this, seven T Level students have embarked on a 45-day industry placement with WDH across a range of departments including marketing, shared ownership, finance and strategy.

Since we began delivering T Levels in 2020, we have embraced these new qualifications as a way to equip our students with industry skills and experience, alongside the theoretical knowledge gained from their classroom studies.

Students’ art brightens up public spaces across the District

Wakefield College students’ artwork helps to brighten up family hubs in Wakefield, as part of a project with Wakefield Families Together. This saw Level 3 Fashion Textile students create pieces of artwork for Wakefield Families Together’s Castle Family Hub, helping to enhance the space and make the families who use the hub feel welcome.
