Award winners celebrate success

Undeterred by the cold wintery weather, Wakefield College students gathered at the Castleford Campus on Friday evening for the Awards Ceremony, the College’s annual celebration of its students’ hard work, dedication and achievements.

On a cold December evening, students on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music (Performance) showcased their talents at The Hop in Wakefield. The performance was entitled Resident Easal and the music was inspired by the life and work of Edward Munch, Salvador Dali, Banksy, and Gerald Scarfe.

College students triumph in WorldSkills showcase

Two beauty therapy students from Wakefield College’s Castleford Campus have won medals at the WorldSkills finals – the UK’s biggest careers and skills showcase. The three day event, held at the Birmingham NEC, attracted more than 500 competitors who took part in an array of disciplines ranging from aeronautical engineering to floristry.

A congregation of more than 500 gathered at QEGS last Saturday to see students from Wakefield College receive higher level qualifications at the annual Graduation Ceremony.

A collaborative sonic arts exhibition which sees students from the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Music Performance from Wakefield College team up with Westgate Studios to create sonic compositions inspired by the work of the resident artists. The video was filmed by Studio Holder Dave Hanvey.

New Harrison Building officially opened

Phase One of Wakefield College’s proposed redevelopment of its Margaret Street site reached completion this week as the new Harrison Building was officially opened. The £7.6 million build, which took a year to complete, will house dedicated Sixth Form learning spaces, a brand new library, café and Higher Education teaching spaces too.
