Health and Social Care students from Wakefield College recently spent a morning on Mars, exploring the Great Barrier Reef and visiting Buckingham Palace all in the comfort of their classroom. The College teamed up with Google Expeditions recently and gave students the opportunity to try on new virtual reality headsets giving them unique insight into areas of interest from across the world and beyond.

The picturesque surroundings of Yorkshire Sculpture Park formed the backdrop for Wakefield College’s annual Apprenticeships Awards Ceremony this week. Senior College staff were joined by local business leaders and local dignitaries to celebrate the success of apprentices and employers at the glittering awards evening.

The prevent performance, by Wakefield College Performing Arts students, follows main character Tom through his College and home life as he begins to question world events and their impact. He eventually becomes influenced by an extreme group and ends up taking extreme measures for what he believes is right. The performance tackles how young people can be influenced over time and how friends, family and teachers can work together to prevent extremism. The performance was shown to hundreds of internal students and is due to be filmed by West Yorkshire Police to be distributed nationally.
