Wakefield College rugby team crowned best in Yorkshire

Wakefield College’s Rugby League students won the plaudits last night after a hard fought 40-28 win over Hull College in the Yorkshire Colleges Cup Final. A vocal crowd at the Lock Lane Rugby Centre, Castleford, saw a determined Wakefield team run out as worthy winners. The team now enters the quarter finals of the national tournament where they face the best college teams in the country.

College lecturer’s work receives international recognition

The pioneering work of a Wakefield College lecturer has received international recognition. Dr. Khalid Al-Tahat, who teaches in the College’s IT department, will see his paper ‘Using Alice for Teaching Object-oriented Programming for Novice Programmers’ published in a leading textbook. Khalid has also been asked to present his work at a prestigious international technology convention in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia, later this month.

A level students from Wakefield College’s Sixth Form Academy have once again come up trumps after the class of 2010 achieved a stunning set of results. Figures revealed last night showed that the overall pass rate exceeded 95% for the 6th year in succession.

Ofsted inspectors give College the thumbs-up

Wakefield College has received a ringing endorsement of the work it does following a recent visit by Ofsted inspectors. Staff and students were celebrating after getting a seal of approval from Inspectors who heaped praise on the College for its “outstanding approach to working with partners, safeguarding, and equality and diversity.”

College students revamp Wildcats’ website

A team of web developers from a popular web design course at Wakefield College put their skills to the test after redesigning the Wakefield Wildcats’ website. The new website, which went live this week, was completed by students Tim Stringer, Greg Carrick and Sam Harris who have all recently successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Web Design at the College’s Thornes Park Campus.

Election fever hits Wakefield College

Wakefield College was abuzz with election fever recently after regional and national political heavyweights visited the College. The College’s Thornes Park Campus hosted a hustings event with Prospective Parliamentary Candidates from the Wakefield District whilst the Margaret Street Campus welcomed Foreign Secretary David Miliband MP.

A Wakefield College lecturer is hoping to knock the likes of Cheryl Cole, Lady Gaga and Usher out of the UK pop charts. Simon Grainger, also known as Graingerboy, is one of 200 acts vying for votes in a unique Facebook campaign to fill the UK charts with unsigned singers and groups.
