This programme offers an exciting range of additional activities including industrial work placements, visits to Manchester Central (GMEX) and Donnington Park Exhibition Centre and an annual College competition. External companies deliver specialist training in College and you will have the chance to gain manufacturers’ certificates. What better way to start your career!
What you will study
Nine mandatory units:-
* Apply make-up
* Follow Health & Safety practice in the salon
* Provide Eyelash and Brow Treatments
* Provide facial skin care
* Remove hair using waxing techniques
* Salon reception duties
* Client care and communication
* Provide manicure treatments
* Provide pedicure treatments
plus a range of optional units.
Your Course Structure
Classroom: 30%; Practical: 50%; Work Experience: 20%
How you will learn
A variety of teaching and learning methods such as observing demonstrations, using online resources and hands-on experience of using beauty therapy techniques.
How you will be assessed
Assessment of your practical skills undertaken in the College salons. Written tests and oral questions. Portfolio building.
Entry Requirements
Level 1 Beauty Therapy or minimum four GCSEs grade A* - D including English. Functional Skills Maths Level 1 or equivalent. Excellent school report plus references demonstrating attitude, enthusiasm and commitment. Interview including written task and selection test.
Attendance
Full-time - one year.
Part-time (daytime or two evenings per week) - one year.
Part-time (one evening per week) - two years.
Course Costs (subject to change)
Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old.
Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.
Additional fees – Kit and Uniform. Details regarding the Salon dress and equipment will be given at interview. The Beauty industry has an accepted dress code and all students will be expected to comply with these standards of dress when working in the Beauty Salon.
Different fees apply to international students.

Further study
Level 3 Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Nail Technology, Holistic Therapies.

Career opportunities
Employment as a Beauty Therapist at a junior level in a salon, spa, hotel, cruise liner, theatre or television studio.
