What you will study
COMPULSORY UNITS:-
* Using ICT to Present Information
Considers the variety and purpose of different documents, and how to present information effectively depending on the audience and how the document will be used.
* Introduction to Computer Systems
Provides an understanding of the purpose of different types of computers, how different operating system interfaces work and how data flows around a system. Learners will develop skills to be able to specify and configure hardware and software to meet the needs of a user and will understand the safety, security and legal issues relating to computer use.

Your Course Structure
Classroom: 30%; Practical: 70%
How you will learn
Theory and practical lessons using the latest computer software and hardware.
How you will be assessed
Continuous assessment involving portfolio building for the main programme. Functional Skills and Preparation for Working Life will be assessed by portfolio of evidence and an external test.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade A* - D including either English, Maths or Science with a minimum of Grade E in English, or
Relevant Level 1 qualification at merit level, including Functional Skills English Level 1 and Maths at Entry Level 3, together with a satisfactory reference.
Attendance
You will be expected to attend College for 17.5 hours per week. Further self-study will be required for completion of research and assignment work but access to computers will be available.
Course Costs (subject to change)
Tuition and certification are free if you are 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Further study
Students who have obtained Merit or above will have the option of progressing on to the GCE in Applied ICT (equivalent to two A Levels), or the BTEC National Diploma IT Practitioners – System Support (equivalent to three A Levels), both offered by Wakefield College, or applying for computer related employment.
Career opportunities
With this qualification you may be able to enter employment in a supervised position as a computer service technician, DTP operator, IT technical sales specialist or technical support person, but further training will widen your employment options.
