Hair & Beauty

An industry employing over 180,000 people, with a £4.8 billion a year turnover.

Hair & Beauty at Wakefield College

We all like to look our best and this is reflected in the considerable size of the hair and beauty industries in the UK.

With the development of new treatments and increasing demand from male customers, there are great opportunities for those with the right creative and technical skills and experience.

Nail technology, beauty therapy and hairdressing offer solid career paths within existing salons, or you can be self-employed.

Students work at Elements, our professional salon, taking advantage of its superb facilities and the chance to provide hair and beauty services to paying members of the public.

Key Points
  • professional salon Elements for live work experience
  • highly qualified tutors
  • fantastic industry links
  • the department hosts Worldskills regional heats and enters students into the competitions. Some have competed at and been placed at the national finals at the NEC Birmingham

Before this course I always dreamt of having my own salon but never knew how. Now I feel like I have confidence and ability to make this happen. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone that has the same dream.
