Services to Business

Services to Business is the business arm of Wakefield College and is part of the Teaching & Learning Team.

Staff and students in the classroomServices to Business encompasses a large part of the College’s employer responsive provision and works closely with the Academies to support their activities in this area. The college holds the Training Quality Standard for Employer Engagement. 
Led by the Director, the Manager coordinates the activities of a team of 7 Market Development Managers, the aim being to provide a responsive high quality service for employers throughout the local area, regionally and nationally. This service is flexible and responsive providing both bespoke and traditional accredited training covering a wide vocational range which can be broadly classified into:

  • Business and Management
  • Engineering
  • First Aid
  • Health & Safety
  • Higher Education
  • Leadership and coaching
  • NVQs for Business, Logistics and Industry
  • Professional courses
  • Social Health Care
  • Special projects and Initiatives

The Yorkshire Leadership Programme is led through the Directorate and is active in developing leadership skills throughout the region.

The Leadership and Management sector of the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network is co-ordinated by the college and the manager is part of Services to Business,  working closely with the appropriate areas within the Directorate.

All college Train to Gain provision is coordinated by Services to Business and much of the delivery falls within this area forming the majority of work done by the Directorate.

The On-line learning Centre operates from Services to Business and it’s activities include delivery for employers and development of certificated and bespoke programmes. Learners come from all over the country and from abroad to study with the centre.

The Directorate is proud of it’s flexible and responsive approach to training solutions providing both traditional accredited provision and bespoke courses designed to met specific needs of individual customers. Delivery is always arranged at times and locations to suit the customer.

Services to Business has approved Centre/Academy status for:

  • Chartered Management Institute
  • Institute of Leadership and Management Centre of Excellence
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing
  • Association of Accounting Technicians
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
  • Chartered Institute of Personnel Development
  • NVQ delivery

Higher Education work is undertaken in conjunction with the College Directorate of Higher Education and accredited through our partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University. Foundation degrees are available in Management & Business Enterprise, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Glass Manufacturing Management in addition to HNC and HND Business and the BA(Hons) top-up in Business and Management.
