What Our Staff Have to Say

“One of the main reasons I came to the College was that it recently had an inspection with an excellent Ofsted result and good previous Ofsted results.”

Chamber Childcare voucher scheme

Wakefield College are now participating in a childcare voucher scheme run by Chamber Childcare. There are no strings attached - it is a Government initiative that gives tax and NI exemptions on the cost of childcare. This is done by sacrificing part of your salary and receiving it in childcare vouchers. This could be up to £962 per year!

What Are Childcare Vouchers & Why Are They Proving To Be So Popular?

  • It is a new scheme introduced by the Government in April 2005.
  • If an employer provides childcare vouchers for its employees, they are tax and NI free to the employee up to the value of £55 per week or £2,860 per annum.
  • The annual savings for a standard rate tax payer could be up to £962 rising to £1,196 for a higher rate tax payer (i.e. taxable earnings above £32,400 p.a.)
  • It is double the saving if there are two working parents.

What Is Salary Sacrifice?

  • This is the means by which most employers are introducing the scheme
  • It is for anyone with regular recurring childcare fees
  • You determine the amount required up to £243 per month
  • You then enter into a salary sacrifice arrangement with your employer
  • You receive your vouchers each month
  • It should not affect any pay related issues such as overtime, mortgage applications, etc.

Effect on Tax Credits

  • If you are in receipt of tax credits and particularly the childcare element, then these could be reduced if you receive childcare vouchers
  • You can check your own personal circumstances by logging on to the following useful website entitledto.co.uk or by phoning the Tax Credit helpline on 0845 300 3900.

You will need details of your earnings to hand when you use the helpline.

Where Can I Use Childcare Vouchers?

  • At any registered OfSTED childcare provider
  • At any approved childcare provider such as:-
    • Nanny
    • Creche
    • Nursery
    • Childminder
    • Out of School Club
    • Holiday Club

You nominate the provider and Chamber Childcare will contact them to ascertain their willingness to join the scheme if they are not already accepting Chamber Childcare cheques.

Please note private school fees may not be include

How Does It Work?

  • Each month, at or on your normal salary date you will receive by post a Chamber Childcare ìchequeî for the value you have nominated
  • The cheque will be personalised with your name, the company name, your payroll number, the date, your chosen childcare provider and the amount
  • You will then use this cheque in either part or full payment of your fees
  • The childcare provider then redeems the Chamber Childcare Cheques from Chamber Childcare
