Last week saw the 3rd annual Graduation ceremony for Wakefield’s Children’s University with over 130 children graduating. The programme is led by Wakefield College with Principal and Children’s University Chancellor, Sam Wright, presenting the children with their awards in the ceremony. Schools attending were: St Michaels Academy; Normanton All Saints Infant School; Wakefield Girls High Junior School; Wheldon Infant School, Glasshoughton Infant Academy; South Hiendley Junior & Infant School; St Helens CE Primary School, Hemsworth; Ryhill Junior & Infant School and Hemsworth Academy.

Wakefield College students studying the BTEC L3 in Sport at Wakefield College travelled to the Aosta Valley in Italy for their annual residential. 29 first year students were challenged to take part in exciting and thrilling outdoor activities, many of which taught skills which are directly related to their course.

Pioneering work placement scheme proves a winner

A work placement programme which allows young people with severe learning difficulties or disabilities gain experience with partner organisations has been hailed a success. The Get SET initiative, run by Wakefield College, has partnered up with local organisations including Caterlink, Nostell Priory, Cedar Court Hotel, and Create Café to provide students with work placements.

Wakefield College Student Experience Manager, Leigh Allsop, is all set for a gruelling 26 mile run this weekend as he joins thousands of others taking part in the London Marathon. Leigh, 33, will be raising money for the Willow Foundation after they supported him through his diagnosis of cancer 8 years ago.
