Rebecca

A Levels
I’m hoping to go to university to study BSc Psychology, in order to eventually qualify and practice as a psychotherapist. Would you recommend the college to potential learners? Yes! It’s an ideal bridge between key stage 4 and the wider world.

What Rebecca had to say...

What did you enjoy the most about the course/ life at college?
The style of learning is much more independent that it was at high school. Some people find this a bit daunting but it also gives you more freedom because during free periods you can tailor your time to your specific needs and priorities. Lessons themselves are also very different; rather than being taught word-for-word from a textbook lessons are very interactive. We are encouraged to discuss ideas, and as Wakefield College is so diverse this can introduce you to a range of views and opinions.

What were the reasons for becoming part of the Mentoring for Excellence Scheme?
My main motivation for becoming part of the Mentoring for Excellence scheme was that it would give me access to opportunities I may not have had otherwise, and would prepare me for higher education.

Can you explain what the Mentoring for Excellence scheme did for your development and personal progression?
Mentoring meetings have been especially useful. When I first started at Wakefield College I struggled with my confidence, particularly surrounding presentations, but talking with my mentor has developed my self-esteem and communication skills.

What are your plans for the future?
