Level 2 Floristry
Studying Floristry is the best thing I have ever done. The course covered everything I needed to gain confidence in all aspects of basic floristry, including finances, costing of materials and profit.

What Caroline had to say...

Why did you choose to study Floristry?

I was previously a hairdresser of 21 years but when the pandemic hit, this left me without work and no income.I was also going through a really tough time in my life which helped me reflect on where I saw myself in years to come and what I wanted for myself.

I have always loved floristry and flowers made me so happy. I’ve played about at home watching videos and tutorials on how to present flowers and wanted to study this further.

I chose to do my Floristry course at Wakefield College as it worked around my work hairdressing schedule and I really liked the look of the course content. It soon became clear that I was in the right place and this is what I was passionate about.

What did you most enjoy about the course?

I learnt some amazing floristry skills and met some lovely people. My tutor Dawn was really helpful and had such amazing knowledge and passion. She helped me solve any problems I faced and she let me express my creativity as I had so many ideas of my own.

It was amazing when she agreed to come to my opening day and cut the ribbon for me. Her husband and family was so supportive of me as well.

If you hadn’t completed this course what would be different in your life?

Studying Floristry is the best thing I have ever done. The course covered everything I needed to gain confidence in all aspects of basic floristry, including finances, costing of materials and profit.

Since completing the course how are you using or planning to use your new skills and/or confidence?

Since completing my course, I have opened my own business called Anthophila Flowers by Caroline Poskitt, which is a unique and bespoke flower stall based in The Glass works Barnsley Market.

The business specialises in all floral aspects and have a make your own bouquet section which allows the customer to pick their own stems and create their own unique designs.

I first started by doing one day a week on the outdoor market just to get my name and work out there before I committed to a permanent base.

I would advise anybody who is considering starting their own business to make sure they do their research, get good advice and find their own uniqueness! If you don’t take the risk, you will never know! Have no regrets and just do you.

I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I have had if it wasn’t for following my dreams. For example, I never thought I would have appeared on Look North supporting my home town and Barnsley Market. It took me out of my comfort zone, but I’m so pleased that I did it. It’s hard work but so worth it and my life has changed for the better.
