Student Recognition Press Release Performing Arts

An aspiring dance student at Wakefield College has secured a place at one of the country’s top performing arts school. Jessica Buxton, 18, currently studying on the National Diploma in Performing Arts at the Thornes Park Campus, is set to continue her learning at the prestigious Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre (MDDC) in Liverpool.

Having been invited for interview in December, Jessica only recently found out she had been successful. “I was over the moon when I found out I had been successful in my application”, she said. “The MDDC is one of the UK’s leading institutes in the field of dance and theatre and I am delighted I have been given this opportunity.”

Jessica eventually hopes to become a professional dance teacher and help young people develop their performing arts careers.

Janine Godfrey, Performing Arts lecturer at Wakefield College, said: ”Jessica is an excellent student who always goes that extra mile to achieve the best she and can. You will never find Jess giving less than 110%. Her development and confidence as a dancer continues to improve and it is this that has helped her achieve a place at a prestigious dance college in Liverpool. I have no doubt that Jess will excel and be as committed there as she has been here at Wakefield College. Jess is a very talented dancer and I truly believe that one day we will see Jess performing with big companies both in the West End and on TV.”

Famous students of the centre include former X-Factor finalist and Dancing on Ice winner Ray Quinn. Graduates from the centre have gone on to develop successful careers in TV, theatre, dance and music.
