A Wakefield College student will soon be able to get his own back on his tutor when the pair clash on opposing sides in this weekend’s Northern Rail Rugby Cup at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster. Eighteen year old Jamie Crowther, who is studying on the BTEC National Certificate in Sports Performance and Excellence, will go head-to-head with his Sports lecturer James Ford when Jamie’s team, Doncaster Rugby League Club, takes on the York Knights – the team captained by James Ford.

Commenting on the clash, Jamie Crowther said: “I’m looking forward to facing James on Sunday to test myself against him. It does feel strange coming up against your lecturer but once the game starts I intend to give it my all.”

Knights’ captain James Ford added: “It’s great to see Jamie doing well in his playing career and I’m looking forward to coming face to face with him on Sunday. I’m keen to see how Jamie gets on and I will not be taking it easy once the action starts.”

Jamie is also part of the College’s all conquering Rugby League team which last season won the league and was crowned the best College team in the country after they also won the Carnegie Colleges Challenge Cup. The success has continued for the team this season after they successfully defended the league championship.

The College has an enviable record of producing students who have gone on to ply their trade in the Super League. Ex-students include Huddersfield Giants’ star Dale Ferguson and Castleford Tigers’ Josh Griffin.
