College celebrates Graduation Ceremony

Graduation Day Press Release Higher Education

A congregation of more than 500 gathered at Wakefield Cathedral last Saturday to see students from Wakefield College receive higher level qualifications at the annual Graduation Ceremony. This year’s guest speaker was Dave Pannell, former student and entrepreneur, who took the opportunity to praise the College for “producing some of the best, most employable graduates of any college in the country”.

Dave recounted his time as a student at the College’s Thornes Park Campus with fondness and highlighted his personal journey from College student to successful businessman working with the likes of the BBC, Harrods, McVitie’s, McDonalds and Arla Foods as a leading marketing and design consultant. Dave now runs The Design Mechanics company in Huddersfield and has employed a number of College graduates over the years.

Wakefield College Principal, Sam Wright, said, “The annual graduation ceremony is a significant event in the College’s calendar where College staff, students, friends and families come together to celebrate the achievements of our HE learners. Saturday’s event was another proud moment for me as Principal and I was delighted to be there to celebrate our learners’ success.”

This year in excess of 350 students achieved a Higher Education qualification at Wakefield College including Higher National Diplomas, Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees and Degrees in a wide variety of areas including Education, Computing, Personnel, Childhood Studies, Care, Sports Studies, Music, Engineering, Business and Management, Web Design, Theatre, Marketing, Art & Design and Accounting. Many have gone on to do top-up degrees at universities across the country.
