Work on the proposed new Crofton Sixth Form Academy building got underway in earnest recently as an artist’s impression of the final build was unveiled. The Sixth Form, a joint collaboration between Wakefield College and Crofton Academy will welcome students from September this year.

The £700,000 build, which will cater for the needs of more than 150 learners, will house state-of-the-art teaching rooms, staff rooms, IT and welfare facilities. The modular design of the new build will also allow future expansion of the site.

Commenting on the new build, Wakefield College Principal Sam Wright said: “These are exciting times for the new Crofton Sixth Form Academy as the new build takes shape. The new facility will provide a dedicated sixth form learning facility in the heart of Crofton where students will learn for years to come.”

Crofton Sixth Form offers a range of post-16 opportunities, at levels ranging from Taster Programmes (up to Level 1) to BTEC Extended Diplomas (Level 3) as well as a range of A Levels. The centre will be open to all students from across the District.

Crofton Academy Head Teacher, Jez Horsley, commented: “The Sixth Form provides a career-focused offer, giving young people the chance to continue with the next stage of their education locally, before going into employment or on to university.”
