Beauty Therapy students from Wakefield College swept the board at the regional World Skills 2014 heats last week after picking up five awards.

The annual event, which took place at the College’s Castleford Campus, saw the region’s best young beauty therapy students from across the north of England showcasing their talents and hoping to impress industry judges.

The competition tests contestants in a number of disciplines including aromatherapy, reflexology, nail enhancements, beauty therapy and media make-up. Wakefield College students Sarah Greaves, Rebecca Oxley, Sian Mitchell, Beth Wadsworth and Emily Durham all finished in the top three in their categories and now hope to go onto compete in the national finals later this year.

Programme Manager for Hair and Beauty Therapy at Wakefield College, Helen Savill, said: “I am so very proud of everyone entering the competitions. The standard this year was exceptionally high, so our competitors did extremely well to get placed. This reflected the hard work, commitment and extra time put in by everyone in preparation for the competitions.”

The live heats took place last week, and the competitors who achieve the highest scores in the heats will be invited to compete at the national UK final at the NEC in Birmingham, which takes place from November 13 to 15.
