A Level students from Wakefield College’s Sixth Form have once again shown their abilities after the class of 2014 achieved a stunning set of results.

Figures revealed last night showed that the overall pass rate was over 97%; an improvement on 2013 and the 10th year in succession to exceed 95%, with almost two thirds of A levels being achieved at A* - C grades. AS Levels also showed a great increase in achievement with an overall pass rate of 91%, beating this year’s national average; made even more remarkable by the 18% increase in numbers of entries.

This year saw more than 30% of A levels being achieved at high A and B grades; an increase of 8%, whilst over half of A Level subjects achieved a 100% pass rate, including English Language, English Literature, Drama & Theatre Studies, Art & Design, ICT, Law and Maths. Film Studies achieved 100% for the 11th consecutive year, Media Studies for the 10th and Sociology with a huge 91% of students achieving A* - C grades.

Collecting her results of an A and two Bs, Zoe Allen said, “I’m elated! All my hard work has paid off but I couldn’t have done it without the support of Wakefield College staff. I can’t wait to start studying Law at Sheffield.”

College Principal, Sam Wright, said “We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. It is testament to their hard work and dedication along with the high quality teaching and learning environment of our Sixth Form. I want to congratulate all our staff and students for their success.”

Head of A Levels, Sue Brown said “We’re all really pleased with this set of results; particularly given the more stringent A Level standards. Our students can be justifiably proud of all the hard work that has underpinned their success. They have coped admirably with the challenge of A Levels and raised the benchmark for the Sixth Form in the future. It is great to see the students continuing to maintain the high standards and quality that are integral to the ethos of the College.”

Assistant Principal Tony Rex is delighted, “It’s fantastic to see how well the first students to benefit from the College’s new Sixth Form facilities have performed. What will be really exciting is how the recent developments of new science labs and refurbished facilities will positively impact on future results.”
