A new working partnership between Wakefield College and a Yorkshire based social enterprise Ahead Partnership is set for launch to coincide with the new academic year.

The ‘Make the Grade’ project brings together local businesses and educational institutes who then jointly work on a number of projects. The scheme has already signed up the likes of Asda, First Choice Recruitment, Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation, Northern Powergrid and the Card Factory.

Learners benefit through taking part in a range of activities including mentoring, interview skills, curriculum-linked business workshops, attendance at careers events and having the opportunity to hear from guest speakers from the business world.

Wakefield College Principal Sam Wright said: “This is a great project for the College to be involved with and will offer our students excellent engagement opportunities to further develop their knowledge, skills and experiences by working closely with successful local and multi-national businesses.”

Make the Grade Chief Executive, Stephanie Burras said “We’re delighted with the growth of Make the Grade and to see the numbers of young people and businesses involved go from strength to strength is very important to us. We cannot wait to see the delivery of exciting business led activities across the Wakefield area.”

The ‘Make the Grade’ project is being run by Ahead Partnership, a social enterprise based in Leeds which seeks to improve educational outcomes through partnerships with business. The scheme will support around 15,000 young learners across Wakefield and Yorkshire.
