A talented Wakefield College beauty student has been named the best in the business after striking gold in a national competition. Sarah Greaves, 29, who studies on the Level 3 Nail Technicians course at the College’s Castleford Campus, won the gold award in the Nails Services category at the World Skills National Finals Event held at the NEC, Birmingham.

Helen Savill, Deputy Head of Hair and Beauty at Wakefield College, said: “We’re thrilled that Sarah has won the gold award. The Nails Services Competition is designed to showcase all of a nail technician’s skills, from applying nail enhancements to nail art. Sarah’s overall skills are excellent, she has practiced over and over again and this was apparent on the day. Everyone at the College is proud of her achievements.”

The nail art theme was “holiday festivities” and Sarah applied a 3D Santa design and a candy cane to her work. The competition takes into account all aspects of treatment such as health and safety, client care, and safe working practices and is judged by a panel of industry experts with the aim of achieving the highest level of expertise.

Sarah beat off tough competition from across the country to reach the final, having battled through local and regional heats. She has now also opened up her own business in Ackworth.

The World Skills final is the UK’s biggest careers and skills showcase. The three day event attracted more than 500 competitors who took part in an array of disciplines ranging from aeronautical engineering to floristry.
