Wakefield College team up with Long Division

Press Release Music Partnerships

Following the loud and lively success of last year’s festival at Unity Works, Wakefield College’s School of Popular Music have teamed up with Wakefield’s ‘Long Division’ Festival to present ‘Upload 2016’ - the students’ end of year live music showcase on 12 June 2016.

And, with support from the College, organisers of Long Division are giving free entry to 16 and 17 year olds and a £10 discount to 18-21 year olds to the main Long Division Festival.

Festival director, Dean Freeman, said: “Long Division is all about supporting local artists and giving them a chance to play alongside those that tour the country (and the world) on a regular basis. The festival is incredibly important for the city of Wakefield, and that's why we do it. To me it is so important, because Wakefield has so much potential and so much going for it. But if the next generation never see it, all our efforts will be for nothing. Hopefully this scheme will encourage some to join us in June!”

Pete Goodwin, Curriculum Development Manager for Music at Wakefield College, adds that the festival opens a lot of opportunities for both the College and its students. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students at college to be part of Wakefield’s Long Division Festival. We have always supported the festival in one way or another and we now hope to build on the potential opportunities that this offers.”

Upload 2016 will be held at Unity Works Major Hall, 12th June 2016 at 2.00 Admission £6 Concessions £4.

Long Division Festival takes place 10-12 June 2016 at various venues across Wakefield.
