Wakefield College student selected for National Championships

Mark Bostock

Wakefield Colleges' Athlete Development Programme strikes again as cross country runner, Mark Bostock, qualifies for the English Schools National Championships. Mark from the Sports, Performance and Excellence course will be representing West Yorkshire in the 1500m race.

To get to this stage Mark had to qualify for the team in trials held at Leeds Beckett University earlier this month. Mark was handpicked after winning the race with an impressive time of 4 minutes and three seconds fighting off stiff competition from across the region.

Ben Severn, who oversees the Athlete Development Programme, said: “This is the second national championship Mark is attending this year after reaching the Association of Colleges Sports finals earlier this year. This is hopefully another step in his journey to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Hopefully, he gets what he deserves and brings back the gold for Wakefield College and West Yorkshire.”

The finals are being held on the 7 & 8 July at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Athletes from all over the country will be getting together for an athletics meet to prove which county is the strongest and strive for individual glory.
