Wakefield College teams up with Room97 Creative Academy

Wakefield College and Room97 have formed a partnership to deliver a brand new training programme called ‘Room97 Creative STARS’. The aim of the programme is to deliver a professional training opportunity for 16 – 19 year olds in Wakefield helping launch their careers in creative hairdressing. The partnership will combines the very best of excellence in education, fused with the award-winning experience of Room97 and their professional team of instructors.

The selected students will be managed by the current British Hairdressing Awards North Western Hairdresser of the Year, Marcello Moccia, and they will be learning from some of the region’s finest hair stylists, hair colourists and instructors.

Marcello Moccia said: “The heart of our mission is to create work-ready stylists and technicians that gain not just the qualification but the expertise, experience and confidence they need to succeed in the hair industry. Our enrichment programmes compliment the accredited qualifications, ensuring that every learner develops exceptional skills and industry know-how.

“We consider our educational offer to be a key aspect of our business and we dedicate ourselves to training and developing the next generation of talent. Being recognised for that feels fantastic and we’re really proud to be on this shortlist.”

Wakefield College’s Senior Leader - Head of Curriculum, Laurent Berges, said, “this is a tremendous opportunity for the College to work with celebrated Hairdressing Professionals and bring our Hairdressing curriculum in the heart of Wakefield, as the salon is based at Trinity Walk Shopping Centre. Students will benefit from the best vocational tuition with Marcello and his team, whilst receiving the College’s trademark support to ensure that everybody is on track with the course and succeed.”

Since the launch of the Room97 Creative Academy in 2014, the academy has gone from strength to strength fast becoming Yorkshire’s first choice in hairdressing training.

Room97 Creative Academy is an innovative and unique provision, which has raised the standards in hairdressing fusing awarding-winning commercial expertise with high level teaching and learning to create inspirational education.

Room97 have have also been shortlisted in the Training Award category in the British Hairdressing Business Awards, sponsored by Wella and hosted by Hairdressers Journal International.

The awards, which are now in their 19th year, seek to find and celebrate the very best salon businesses in the country – an industry which contributes an estimated £7bn to the British economy and one which employs more than 300,000 people.
