Wakefield College Academy of Sporting Excellence is continuing their support of individual athletes with First Year Junior Cyclist, Mason Hollyman, who is looking for sponsorship to help achieve his goal of becoming a pro cyclist.

Mason has achieved good results this year, including:

  • 2nd place in the second stage of the Tour of the Mendips National Series
  • 15th on GC(General Classification) at the Tour of the Basque country, Spain, coming 12th on the Queen stage and finishing 5th young rider (out of a field of 198 riders)
  • 4th at the Scarborough National series round
  • 6th on GC at the Junior Tour of Wales, the biggest British race on the Junior Calendar, finishing 4th on a hill top finish, 6th on the Queen stage and 2nd on the young riders classification
  • Winner of Stage 2 on the UCI stage race in Italy, Giro di Basilicata, and 6th on GC finishing 2nd young rider

Speaking about his place in the Academy of Sporting Excellence, Mason says, “My course has taught me a lot about nutrition and fuelling my body properly for races, as well as muscle structure and how the heart works – which is a really interesting part of the course.”

Mason aims to become a professional cyclist and next year will be increasing the number of international races to get his name on the cycling spectrum and progress up the ranks. However costs are high for the quality equipment needed for racing, and travel. He is hoping any small donations or sponsorship opportunities will help him on the way to become the athlete he aspires to be.

If you would like to sponsor Mason to contribute towards costs, and help Mason on his journey, you can contact Head of Competitive Sports, Ben Severn on
