Wakefield College students at the Futsal tournament

Wakefield College started their learning difficulty and disability sport programme off this week with a futsal tournament against other colleges from around Yorkshire and Humberside.

The tournament was held at Bishop Burton College and saw teams from Bishop Burton, Shipley, East Riding College and Wakefield College get together to battle it out to be the crowned champions.

This was the first event of its kind for Wakefield, who entered two teams. The tournament was of high quality and full of established teams. Both Wakefield teams put in great performances and ended the day finishing joint fourth.

Ben Severn, Head of Competitive Sports at the College, said “It’s the beginning of a new chapter for Wakefield College. It was great to see the level of interest and popularity of the event in college and also across the region. There was great talent on show and we look forward to building the provision for students with disabilities or learning difficulties in Wakefield.”
