Wakefield College celebrates A Level results…

A Level students from Wakefield College’s Sixth Form have once again demonstrated hard work and determination after the class of 2018 achieved another strong set of results. Figures revealed last night showed students achieved an overall pass rate of 97% - the 15th year running the result has exceeded 95%. The number of students achieving high A* to C high grades also saw a seven percent increase to 58%.

In addition to the A level success, an impressive 23 BTEC Extended Diploma students, almost double the amount last year, achieved three distinction stars – the highest results possible.

This year saw 18 A Level subjects achieve a 100% pass rate, including ICT, History, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Psychology, Law Geography, and Economics. Film Studies achieved 100% for the 15th consecutive year, whilst English Literature students attained the 100% mark for the 13th year in a row.

Amongst this year’s top achievers, Andzelika Duda achieved A (Maths) B (Chemistry), B (Biology) and B (Extended Project) to secure a place at the University of Sheffield to study Medicine. Commenting on her results, Andzelika said: “I’m very happy with what I have got. I had great teachers that always supported me, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Students at AS Level were also celebrating after they achieved an overall pass rate of 92% - a huge 11% increase on the previous year’s results. Seven subjects achieved a 100% pass rate including Law, Mathematics and Film Studies.

Head of A Levels, Sue Brown said: “These are another set of excellent results and I’m really proud of the teaching staff who have dealt admirably with the recent reforms and introduction of two-year linear A Level qualifications.”

College Principal, Sam Wright, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see that students at Wakefield College have once again achieved excellent results in both A and AS Level qualifications. That there has also been an increase in the number of learners achieving top grades is a testament to the high standard of teaching across all areas of the College.

“I along with all the senior team and governors, would like to congratulate all of our students and staff on their hard work
