The University Centre at Wakefield College is celebrating the results of the National Student Survey, which puts them top of the class for overall student satisfaction for Higher Education courses in the Yorkshire and Humber region for the second year running.

The results show that the University Centre is once again in first place for Higher Education providers in the Yorkshire and Humber region, with a score of 89% for Overall Student Satisfaction, closely followed by The University of Leeds and Leeds Trinity University, and ahead of other regional Universities including Sheffield Hallam University and Leeds Beckett University. The University Centre is also well ahead of other Colleges in the region, and considerably above the National Average of 83%.

Tony Rex, Director of Higher Education Development at Wakefield College University Centre, says “We’re absolutely delighted with the results of the National Student Survey; it shows that our students are having positive experiences in our University Centre, and are benefitting from the investment we have made including our new Advanced Skills and Innovation Centre (ASIC). It’s yet more good news after our TEF Silver Award which recognised the high quality of teaching and learning in our University Centre. Our goal of “Rethinking University Education” is attracting more and more students from diverse backgrounds, as we open up university-level education and training for all and is raising higher-level skills in the District.”

The College has recently begun the process to achieve Foundation Degree Awarding powers and is looking forward to the challenges this will bring buoyed by these high levels of student satisfaction. The University Centre scored above the regional average for the key areas of teaching on the course (89%) and assessment and feedback (90%), and also scored highly for learning opportunities (91%), and academic support (92%).

Vienna Dooler who is studying Health & Well-being (BA Hons) at the University Centre says “I chose Wakefield College because of its reputation and ease of location. I initially started as an A Level student and chose to stay on and complete a degree as I thoroughly enjoyed the support from tutors, personalised learning approach and lower fees. My advice to anyone considering the University Centre at Wakefield College would be to go for it. The supportive college and its staff will equip any learner to achieve their goals.”

The College received £3.3M investment through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Growth Deal (a £1 billion package of investment to accelerate good growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region), to support the new ASIC Building.
